1. Platform overview
Local Chef RI is a marketplace connecting customers with private chefs in Rhode Island. We provide the platform, payment infrastructure, and customer acquisition.
Chefs are independent contractors, not employees. Local Chef RI does not employ chefs, set their schedules, or control how they perform their services.
2. Commission & fees
How your earnings work
The 15% fee covers payment processing, marketing, and platform support — no hidden charges.
The platform commission rate is currently 15%. This rate:
- Applies to every confirmed booking
- Is deducted from the chef's payout, not charged separately to the customer
- May be adjusted with 30 days notice to active chefs
- Covers: secure payment processing, platform maintenance, customer support, marketing, chef vetting, and background check coordination
3. Payment terms
Payments are processed through Stripe Connect. Chef payouts are issued within 3–5 business days of a completed booking. The platform does not hold funds beyond what is required for payment processing.
MVP notice
Payment processing is being implemented. Booking terms and commission calculations are in effect. Actual payment disbursement will begin when the payment system launches.
4. Chef responsibilities
- Provide accurate profile information and portfolio images
- Maintain food safety standards and relevant certifications
- Honor all confirmed bookings or cancel with adequate notice
- Communicate with customers exclusively through the platform
- Arrive prepared with all necessary ingredients and equipment
- Leave the kitchen clean after every service
5. Customer responsibilities
- Provide accurate event details including dietary needs and allergies
- Ensure kitchen access and a clean workspace for the chef
- Honor cancellation policies as stated by the chef
- Communicate with chefs exclusively through the platform
- Treat chefs with respect and provide honest reviews
